Uncanny, no?

Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!

Beavis and Butthead's Return. Was it worth it?

Yes...for the first 15 minutes or so. The first story was current and hysterical. The second story felt it should've been a montage rather than an entire episode. Felt a little pointless, but then again in the world of Beavis and Butthead it kind of worked. Truth is each episode felt too short.

The commentary:

The first two music videos were the right length for my attention span, but I felt the commentary was, while funny, drawn out. It made the videos feel longer than they really were.

I like the new reality show aspect added but I felt it was the reverse of the music videos. The commentary was funny and the right amount of length but the clips were too long.

While I felt the return of Beavis and Butthead was flawed, it was still good. I'm glad they're back!

Favorite Quotes (edited):

Butthead (re Twilight, Eclipse): Well, this isn't very good.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Beavis: So um is Bella a zombie? She's always just like standing there with her mouth open and she acts like she's dead
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Butthead: How come everybody whispers in these movies?
Beavis: They're probably embarrassed.

Beavis and Butthead's Return; and 1 hr 37 minutes and counting....

How did I not know TONIGHT was the premiere. Anxiously, shall I await for you two to return to my life. Best...Thursday...Ever!

Joss Whedon has ‘Much Ado About Nothing’

Josh Whedon Tweets Secret Movie Project

Pretty Much Sums it Up...

Just received this message from Stephanie regarding my web series prototype (aka my former EFP final cut up into pieces) but it tends to sum up my powers of persuasion along with the natural reaction to some of my material.

"I don't know what to say...lol. Can't believe you got [fill in name] to do this...wait, yes I can, lol"

Word to Final Draft

Currently pasting all my scripts (pre-Masters Program) into Final Draft from Word. AMAZING how I did a two year screenwriting program on Word but, ANNOYING, the process it takes to input it into Final Draft. But, pretty soon I'll have a professional body of work to send out...we're still allowed to draw cartoons on the cover pages right? ;-P

RANDOM MOTHER/SON MOMENT

Mom: I was watching Basic Instinct, but it wasn't the original.
Me: You were watching part 2...did you get that from my room?
Mom: Yes. Do you have the original?
(pause)
Me (pfft): Of COURSE I do.

And then she borrowed that and Leap Year to watch at work the tomorrow.

MasterCard and Stand Up To Cancer: "We All Stand Up / Thank You"

So, this is both versions of the PSA we shot on the Sony lot a few weeks back. It was really cool having both SU2C and LZP gather into Laura's office to watch it during the world series. Oh, and guess what we found out yesterday? We got paid for it too! Hoo-Sha!

I Know Who Killed Me...Almost Killed Me...

Sometime last week, on my quest to have everyone and their mother (in many cases literally) watch Ringer, I pitched the pilot to a co-worker. He in return told me it sounded a lot like the plot to I Know Who Killed Me. If you don't what I Know Who Killed Me is...well, what Freaky Friday was to Lindsay Lohan's "teen" image, this film was to her "downward spiral" image.

And like magic (I'm fairly sure my co-worker is a magical movie leprechaun, so I think that word is appropriate) I Know Who Killed Me ended up at Biglots, in a two pack along with one of my all time favorite films I Know What You Did Last Summer, for 3 bucks. I knew had I not bought it right there and then, that I would've been struck down by lightning.
Cut to me watching it, over the course of three days. No, it's not that long...but it is longer than it should be.

Rather than break it down into a review, I decided to copy and paste the frequent comments/ thoughts I had posted on both MY Facebook wall as well as that of my two of my fellow co-workers. Also, out of courtesy, SPOILER ALERT!

Oh snap i'm peeling the label, oh Lindsay looks so excited. I'm the only one since the movie came out in theaters to actually watch her. Oh look at that. the dvd art is of a blue flower. It so looks like the font from I Know What You Did Last Summer. Explains the 2pak. And the dvd's in!
Oh wow it already looks bad. The first shot looks like it was shot with my [$]300 digi palmcorder I got from Costco 4 years ago.
oh look at that, a homage to high school theater...no wait that's just really bad acting on Lohan and that guy who looks like an extra from That 70s show.
omFg is that the cat from Austin Powers back from the dead? cos it look it.
oh snap she just lost some fingers. How ever will she grab ahold of that shiney bloody pole again?
I fell asleep. I Know Who Killed Me live blog pt 2: now wide awake...this film looks waaaay worse. I blame [co-worker]
Dear lord, that movie (i fell asleep last night during it)...is never gonna end. It's like the cockroach, it'll live on forever *shivers*
ok posession isn't the same time as a twin taking over somebody's identity without telling people. Two verrry different things *shakes head*
linds + strip/ dancing = cringe
ok, this movie is so ridiculously awful, I [can't] post anymore or [co-worker's] page won't see the light of day ever again
omg i'm still finishing it and now it turned into an episode of the bionic woman. *falls off bed laughing*
OMG she's literally in a room with falling SPARKLES! WTF is this movie becoming???
ok is that a tub full of blood...or still forming jello?
OMG he just bitchslapped her with her own faux skin what da faaaah???
Wait...HE'S the killer? I thought it'd be the manufacutor of all those robotic hand things. I assumed he was cutting all their limbs off so they'd be FORCED ot purchase faux limbs. 'Cause that would be genious...but this ending....what da faaaah???
OH SNAP! He got it in the groin.
OMG she's gonna use her robotic hand to punch in the glass coffin like Superman. :;gasp:: She DID it!
awwwe, now they're crying while the sappy music plays. This is so Uptown Girls, only with robotic hands, glass coffins, and sparkles.
No aftermath? Pfft, laaaame.
OK finished I KNOW WHO KILLED ME. It's a Lifetime movie told with a big movie budget. Ironically, I feel if it actually were a Lifetime movie it would've been pretty good.
You have been enlightened. You're Welcome :)

Failed TV Show Reboots

With the recent cancellation of the Charlie's Angels reboot. I ended up looking up some of my other favorite 70s icons. After doing so I have decided to give some credit to the Angels reboot, in that it actually got made into a series.

Here's just a few reboots that never ended up making it on the air.

1. WONDER WOMAN 2011 David E. Kelly pilot:

To be honest, this one wasn't bad. Well, if you excuse The Notebook scene which I felt was a bit much (then again with all my female friends it's also very realistic). The whole corporate angle didn't really phase me (then again I consider this a continuation of the 1975 The New Adventures of Wonder Woman series, though I don't believe it is). Sometimes, I felt we lingered a little too much in that world that the show lost focus on where it should be. But, the themes brought out through her corporation were really nice. The connection of loneliness and sacrifice between a non-human superhero and a corporate working woman really came through. Also, GREAT casting with Adrianne Palicki.

Special Note: She doe NOT wear the 'pants suit' throughout the entire pilot.

2. WONDER WOMAN (Who's Afraid of Diana Prince?) 1967:

Cute, but ridiculous. The clip is all there is and truth be told, is all I could handle. Not surprised that it didn't get developed further. Thankfully in 1975 they took a real crack at it and hence we ended up with ever classic Lynda Carter version =)

3. ELECTRA WOMAN 2001

Much like the Charlie's Angels films, this show took a look at its campy predecessor and decided to instead dive into the realm of comedy. Which, could have been a stroke of genious, had it been done properly. What we really are left with is an unfunny show with elements of Power Rangers and My Life is Earl, revolving around two unlikable characters (though I must admit I liked seeing Markie Post in the role of Electra Woman). Even the clutter of superhero cameos (Aquaman and The Flash) couldn't save this.

COMIC STRIP CORNER

A few years back I decided to just start doodling to see where it went. What I came up with was a batch of poorly drawn but very lovable comics that were loosely (or not so loosely) based on my life, the lives of my friends, or just random ideas. Enjoy.

Ugh, the deal was made today at work. I have to lose weight in order to fit into my small swag "I Am McLovin" shirt or else it goes to Alex V. by default. Booooo. But I...am...MOTIVATED ::does HULK strut:: Oh no! I ripped my shirt! Just kidding ;-P

Angels in Chains...Oh, no they didn't.

Am NOT looking forward to this. In fact, I'm down right offended.

PSA Day

Great day on set today. Got to work with all the people I love but also met a lot of new faces. Never been so glad to have my business cards on hand, too, lol.

By the end of the day we finished the PSA, made a lot of friends, and finally...got a lotta swag (sweeeet ^_^)

This is a totally sappy blog I'm aware. I make no apologies.

X's and Gus's

Many people have their own philosophies when it comes to watching a new series that isn't up to their standards of "good". Some stop watching after the first episode, others give it three seasons. I, however, agreed with how my friend worded it. "You only have to have faith for 3 episodes. That's how long you have to give a show before you are officially allowed to give up".

So I made a list of the new series I've started watching this season and rated them with X's and Gus's. Gus's mean that it's good, or I liked/ loved it, or basically it's good enough to keep me watching again. X's mean it fell flat on its face and the only reason I gave it another chance was because of the three episode rule.

Five quickie reasons why I feel this show deserves the ax (note: there are more to this list, I just wanted to jot down a few. Also, note that there are certain things I do like about the series...but that list doesn't outweigh this one)

  1. The writing is poor.
  2. The character focus per episode is unbalanced.
  3. Robert Wagner as Charlie is flat.
  4. The show's constant attempt to make Bosley one of the Angels instead of their assistance.
  5. Rather than make this a continuation, they turned it into a Reboot. So we aren't connected to the previous legacy created back in the 70s. Meaning, we have no connection to this team...that works in a Malibu condo (or beach house?) who take their orders from a corporate telephone. Nice way to take a somewhat unique concept and 'Gossip Girl' it up.

QUICK LIKE LIST

  1. The show is actually funny.
  2. The dialouge is pretty witty.
  3. While a lot of the humor of the show does derive from the stereotypes and cliches of this world, enough integrity is inserted to keep the show from being just that. (ex: The character of  Caroline. She isn't just a ditz heiress type. She's intelligent and brings both smarts and heart to the broke girl duo.
  4. Great cast.
  5. "Marry the ketchup. OK, now divorce them".

    QUICK LIKE LIST

    1. The return of Sarah Michelle Gellar.
    2. The production value has gone up since the second episode (which is essential to this type of show).
    3. While this show IS cheesy and filled with less than fresh clichés, there's always something stirring. There's questions, there's build up, and despite how it is executed at times it's not the typical pop drama that we see a lot of on TV. But, the cheese does help keep it at a lighter tone, despite it's darker nature.
    4. The supporting cast.
    5. Cinematography (especially in the pilot).
I am currently watching more shows, however I haven't quite got to episode three of these shows yet. When I do, I'll post up my Xs and Gus's.

Random Thought of the Night: Santa's Village

Does anybody remember Santa's Village? Anyone actually ever go to Santa's Village? My brother did. Closest I ever got to go was a family trip where I saw a sign that stated Santa's Village was a certain distance away. And to clarify, the family trip was not for Santa's Village. Though, I do remember snow. Ice snow. Also remember sleeping in a van and I think I remember Coca-cola.

I looked it up. At one time I guess there were TWO Santa's Village's here in Cali. Both, of course shut down. I remember hearing the news. Sad.

Though thanks to the internet I did find out there is another one in New Hampshire. So I guess I can go if I really wanted to...though, that dream died out long ago.

All this is courtesy of sleep deprivation and the pilot of American Horror Story. And possibly some Mountain Dew.

GOOD NIGHT ALL and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

    AWKWARD. Opinion

I'll be honest with you. I'm not big on MTV. When I was younger it was one of the IT channels to watch. But, between my lackluster connection to current music and more than one time of losing cable. I had disconnected to it (unless you include old school episodes of the Real World on KCAL 9).

Every now and then I catch up with an MTV show and am always pleasantly rewarded from MADE, to THE HILLS, and now AWKWARD. starring Ashley Rickards (aka Sam Walker from One Tree Hill/ 2Katchapredator from Gamer).

The premise is simple. An awkward outcast receives a letter stating basically that she is nobody and gives her a to do list to get out of that (I.E. stop being a pussy). Of course this leads to her writing a mopey teen angst entry in her apparently public blog and then an accident that makes her look suicidal rather than just clumsy. In the end this leads her to cross off another item on the list (to stand out).

The show is funny, entertaining, only 30 minutes long (OK less with commercials), a solid cast that actually resembles (or for Hollywood standards) a real high school class. We get fun characters, formation of love triangles, actual love triangles, witty dialogue, and did I mention it's only 30 minutes long? I know, I did, but some shows tend to think an hour is the way to go and those shows tend to get canceled and/ or bad mouthed.

So in conclusion. AWKWARD. = entertainment.

Oh, Shamesless Sequels & Prequels How I Love You So...(cont'd)

I must say I'm surprised I overlooked this one when I made my original list. It's one both my mom and I enjoy. Also, special points to the original. With its help I was able to turn the Costco break room into a sports free, chick-flick-a-licious haven for a good hour and a half.

    Final Season of ENTOURAGE Thoughts...

Originally I began writing what I thought would be a lot more in depth of an entry. Then I stopped and deleted it. Because the truth is I won't analyze this show as a film student so much as me. This show was awesome. Before I saw it, the words I heard about it were "amazing". I didn't think so about the first season (though it was good) but I loved the second season. I loved the show for years, It was fun and addicting following these group of guys.

For a while I had stopped watching (not because it wasn't entertaining. It's just life...) I heard about the final season and heard lots of thoughts. Many felt that since the guys on the show settled down that was the end of it. Not having seen the season (post season 5) yet I jumped the gun and agreed because the show began as a group of guys following a movie star. The group would party, go through money, have adventures, and always have each others backs. But as the show continued, starting with E, we watched as these guys grew into their own. They slowly stopped relying on Vince (not 100% of course, but enough to be their own men). They got into relationships that lasted more than one episode. Honestly, I was looking forward to the final season.

Then came Season 7, or what I like to call 'The Charlie Sheen' season. While the story lines grabbed my attention, the show became darker. It lost its humor, witty writing, and characters. I don't mean the leads, I mean the other characters. Such as Lloyd whose arc seemed to end at the beginning of season 7 and finally came back in the final episode. We saw OK-but not very grabbing-slightly bland female interests in the forms of Alex (Dania Ramirez) and Sasha Grey (Sasha Grey). None even remotely touched the bar set by Sloane (Emmanuelle Chriqui)and even Jamie-Lynn Sigler ( Jamie-Lynn Sigler). However, I must admit I did expect to see a return of Justine Chapin (Leighton Meester). I really felt Vince would fight for her if she returned.

This is going on longer than expected. Basically, while Entourage wasn't 100% set in reality it felt grounded and organic in its story lines, character growths, and outrageous stunts. But, season 7 and 8 felt too ridiculous and had too many large leaps (from E's takeover of the company to Turtle's Tequila business' growth). And interestingly enough the one character who I would've been OK with having such an exaggerated step got what I felt was a much too grounded treatment (Drama's cartoon and TV movie). Also side note, disliked the buildup of E's partner Scott as one of the Entourage boys. They should have found a way to do that with Llyod.

A storyline I felt that needed its own section is Artie (Jeremy Piven) and Dana's (Constance Zimmer) affair. While I felt that storyline was just too much of a stretch, it IS grounded in that they set up the groundwork for this years back. I must admit though I like Dana and it was nice to see her back. Also, truth be told if I hated Ari's wife (which I don't, she's amazing) I would have rooted for this relationship. Oh FYI Ari's role in final episode episode...jury's still out.

The two things I must say though that I did enjoy. I enjoyed that Vince did not end up with Sasha Grey as my co-worker told me he did. While I still much would've seen Vince with Justine, I could see how he ended up with Sophia (Alice Eve) and by the rules of TMZ, could also understand how he could marry her after only one date.  But, what really had me happy was Sloane and E's reunion and the fact she was pregnant. When I first heard that news...pure joy.

This review/notes/ blab/ vent probably reads like bad cheese, but truth be told. The last two seasons of Entourage dropped the ball. Much like the final season of United States of Tara. But, at least that finale worked MUCH better for me.

Fruits of Our Labor, SU2C/ STAR WARS style

    Ringer Review

No matter how you spin it, the pilot wasn't the best it could be. Had it been a movie, it would have been amazing. But, as an hour pilot (which should've been at least an 1hr and a half pilot) it suffered greatly. There's a whole complicated world to establish in such a minimal amount of time. Then add in the obvious cuts for broadcast television.

Next comes Sarah Michelle Gellar, a gem. For the most part she was amazing, I cared for her as Bridget. And sold herself as the identical but different Siobhan. However, at times during Sarah's delivery as Bridget, I could've help feeling that I was watching Buffy Summers reincarnated.

Include this with the introductory shot of the statues that reminded me a little too much of the Sunnydale cemetery (actually, nothing involving those statues did I enjoy. For the most part while I'm sure there was an emotional/symbolic connection to Bridget, it looked silly). Also, speaking of silly looking, a lot of the scenes with the twins (while they looked realistic) their backgrounds looked extremely green screen. And while that's a style some shows pull off nicely (i.e. Veronica Mars) this one seemed more cheap, clashing with the nicely done cinematography.

For the most part the direction was nice, but more than once was there poor choices that made the pilot look cheesier than it should have. Specifically when it came to the attack sequence. In fairness, some of the cheesy 1992 zoom shots did get certain thoughts across quickly. But, once again, an insert here and a close up of Gellar's great facial expressions and we would've had the same idea but with a less campy look.

So, in conclusion I had issues with this pilot. HOWEVER, in no way is it not good. It's a pilot that had a lot to get out there and now I feel the best is yet to come. It's like a superhero origin tale. We know the world, we know the people, now it's time to jump on this roller coaster and get this party started.

And I'm not just saying this because Sarah Michelle Gellar is in it. This show has a lot going for it and it's refreshing to have a show like this on the CW (and yes, my confession, I started to wander away from the CW over these past two years).

Oh, what a night. We were there until ten again but I left with 1. A Stand Up 2 Cancer T-shirt 2. With the knowledge that my supervisor also loves SMG and Buffy. And finally 3. With the satisfaction of knowing that I forced my two superiors and fellow intern to listen to the SPICE GIRLS. Once again, Oh what a night.

Had Sissy read it her exact words "Snap! Could not put it down!" Which is of course great to hear. Working on how to construct it properly into a feature script and will listen to her ideas to try to make this a sweet script. Maaaan do I miss this side of me and this side of collaboration.

    Things to Learn from

For two years of my Chapman University career I had a story. It evolved from a cycle film script, to a location film script, to a TV pilot. I considered turning it into a feature, however loved the idea of it as a TV show. I had a development class in which it was rejected. So I worked on it as a show instead. Cut to today:

I was talking with {The Dean} last night and mentioned your [ script] - he expressed interest in it and suggested you get it to [The Teacher who rejected your idea], who is running that program where they want to make low budget features. I don't know how far along you are in converting it into a feature, but let me know and I'll put you in touch with Travis (assuming you've got a script.)

So to all, even if it is rejected, try to form you story into as many outlets as possible. Or risk chance of a missed opportunity.

    Wish/Need/Want

You know what's really motivating when you decide that you want to look your best for an event (best being fit and as skinny as possible because 'hey, that's society') and so you try to work out, eat right, and let's be honest here, really suffer through every minute of it just to be able to slip on a tight shirt and gain some fancy attention? Being called FAT. Or at least having your weight pointed out. And even when you try to play it off with, "Hey at least I look good right?" getting the response of "Lose the weight". You know, that's ridiculous. Worse is that every time I attempt to work out I somehow injure myself. So really I'm risking injury and making myself suffer only to look more large than before I even started. Hm....

People keep asking me "why do you care what other people think?". And here's the thing. They are full of crap. They care, we ALL care. You HAVE TO care. But, here's what sucks. There's certain things you HAVE TO care about. There are other things you can SETTLE with. And it's sad how you can not care what others think and settle. But, it's rare to reach a certain wish/need/want when you settle with the best you can get. It's not that your wish/need/want isn't reachable. Odds just aren't in your favor.

I'm aware I mixed two subjects in one without any real differentiation. But, I don't care. It's either this or I go back to talking about Heidi and Spencer and of course Rebecca Black. Take your pick!

In conclusion; I'm tired of falling for this whole "image/ society's standard/ peer pressure" bull shit. Enough is enough. It's not that I'm not happy with myself. But, I am damn tired of settling. I don't settle in the workforce, with my friends, with my education. And I'll be damned if I'll do it anywhere else. I need a frequen sign, I am SO protesting this.
